Unfired shells are shorter than the same shell fired, because, upon firing, the crimp will expand out the front when it's pushed open by the fired charge.Ĭhecking with a 2-3/4" unfired shell is mis-leading, as the unfired shell is short enough to readily seat in a 2-9/16' chamber.
